"Ewin puts Torres To-rest" - Ultimate Combat 20/6/04   Sunday saw Matt step into the ring against Spanish Shooto fighter Tony Torres at Ultimate Comat - Kiddiminster. Tony, a black belt in BJJ and Ruben Vasquez'z training partner came into the ring with a good fighting record and reputation to match - this wasn't going to be easy for Matt. Both fighters were vary cautious at the start of the fight, feeling each other out - Matt using his front kick like a jab to maintain his comfort zone. Torres tried to throw some punches and Matt countered with a clinnch and subsequently a takedown. The fight stayed mainly on the ground, Matt methodically keeping Torres against the cage using the G&P but Torres did a good job of countering and tried hard to work the triangle. Matt was able to counter and showed his usual cool calculated genius working his game plan to great effect. Matts shots started getting harder and Torres was beginning to look battered. Matts work rate was higher throughout and was slowly wearing Torres down with torturous rib and head shots. Torres's ability in BJJ was apparent in the way he was able to keep Matt from completely destroying him.   The fight went the distance but is was clearly evident that Matt was the agrressor and had done enough to secure a good victory - Ewin Rolls on and increases his fight record to 12 - 2 - 1.
